Have you tried The Underworld? There you can get a decent amount of drops to sell to merchant and you will get ectos and chests. That is in my opinion the main place that 55 monks are used for, and the other places such as trolls are just for when your area does not have favor. If you need help in the Underworld I can let you come with me and observe a run and you can ask any questions. Just message me in game. I am on the american servers by the way.

As EYP said, best place is FoW and UW. UW for ecto drops though
Generally you will make back the cost of the entrance (500g each for you and your partner) and then clean profit from there on. At the end of our runs I usually made about 10k (even with buying more keys) and then the ectos which is ofcourse good money. Sometimes you may be lucky to get a good stormbow or fellblade as well which could earn you a quick 100k. Though I've yet to get one of those nice drops.
While your country does not have favor, go Troll/minno/hydra/anything farming. I jump around between troll/griffon/Jade/warden areas. It just depends on your luck really. Managed to make 13k on saturday by just doing that for a few hours. Got Major Vigor drop as well, now just to get a Sup instead
For the UW farming, have a look around. You will find PLENTY of threads with the build, details and even vids. From there on it just takes a bit of practise. Best advice for UW - start slow! Don't aggro what you can't handle. A group of 3 Aatxes are fine, learn to cope with the Nightmares that pop up and then later you will figure out how to tank more of them. Smites, well here you just need to find a group size that you can cope with. Up to 6 are easily managed, bigger groups get WAY more tricky... Be prepared to die and try again. It will cost you a bit at the beginning until you find your stride, so keep that in mind.

Something is really wrong if you're only making 5k in two weeks. Hell, you can make 5k in less than an hour from trolls alone.
The Underworld is definitely the place to give a shot to making money. Get yourself a decent Necromancer partner and reap the awards. There are several guides scattered over the internet on 55 and SS'ing your way through.

I make around 10-12k an hour farming with my 55
You're doing something wrong if your only getting 5k in a week.

Less than 5k over the last 2 weeks of constant farming?
I echo what others have said, something is definitely wrong here.
From the ones you've mentioned, the hydras (assuming you're refering to the ones found in Skyward Reach) were the ones I regularly farmed with my 55 monk. It takes about 30 mins to kill them all (or most of them), and gold coinage pickups and selling drops to merchant makes between 4-7k.
Whether drops are good or bad, you need to pick up as much as you can. So you need to start your farm run with your inventory pretty much empty. Always have Id kit, Salvage Kit and maybe Expert Salvage kit with you. If you start running out of inventory slots and not close to finishing your run, then start salvaging to free up slots and build up a collection of materials to sell. Be selective on what you salvage though, that is, don't waste inventory slots with a variety of materials with small amounts. If you find you're getting more staff and bows then start a wood pile. Salvage low level items first as they're usually worth less to the merchant than their higher level version. If you get coloured items then consider expert salvaging the mod, if it is good, and you plan to sell to other players. You won't get much from the merchant for mods, so avoid salvaging mods for the sake of doing so.
Don't dismiss items like the claws, horns, tusk etc. Since you're farming the same monsters, the number of these items can build up quickly, so they're worth stockpiling and selling to the merchant.
Rotate your farming spots, and take time out from farming and do quests or missions.

Are you solo farming or are you taking other people and/or hench with you?
Farming the Troll cave outside droks with a 55 should easily bring you in 6-7K an hour even if you only get rubbish drops. Getting a few nicer drops, even just "precious" blue items will up this figure to over 8K an hour without trying too hard.
When farming remember to start out with your inventory as empty as possible and pick up everything that drops. Use an ID kit on everying and sell everything that isn't perfect to the merchant.
Don''t stand around for half an hour trying to sell an imperfect purple or gold item for a couple of K when you could be killing more Trolls and selling everything to the merchant.
Lastly, when Troll farming, save up the troll tusk till you have 250 of them, then sell them in bulk to the Troll tusk buyers at Droks for 16-18g each.
Making money from Troll farming may not be the fastest way in the game, but it is easy and reliable and will easily bring you in 100K in a week with out working too hard.

Are you picking up the regular white loot, IDing them, and then selling them to merchants?

IDing white loot? Is there a benefit on doing so?

I recently made a 55 monk and have been having quite a bit of luck farming most of the places mentioned, but there's one I can't get. A lot of you mention farming hydras, and I assume you're talking about the ones in Skyward Reach. All I can find are lots and lots of scarabs.
Care to share what I'm missing?
(@Timmy Shinobi: IDing an item that doesn't have a gold value will increase how much a merchant pays for it. I've seen it raise it as much as 70gp, though usually it's around 10-20gp. It helps cover the cost of the ID kit!)
